Communications and Project Coordinator Contract Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Communications and Project Coordinator will support the Executive Director (ED) in campaign and administrative related tasks. The Coordinator is responsible for research and development of draft campaign messaging, materials, and content with guidance from the ED. These materials are used throughout campaign activities and uphold the mission and vision of The Mountain Pact. The Coordinator is also responsible for posting social media content that is relevant to current and past campaigns to The Mountain Pact’s social media accounts; drafting the monthly Conservation Update; and maintaining administration tracking.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Craft campaign documents such as talking points, backgrounders, sign-on letters, reports, and op-eds;

  • Pull together monthly conservation updates; 

  • Work with ED and funders on appropriate campaign messaging;

  • Draft, edit, and format policy, campaign, and news alerts to be sent to western local elected officials, congressional contacts, and the public;

  • Maintain The Mountain Pact Social pages;

  • Provide website design and management assistance as needed;

  • Maintain knowledge of public lands, climate, outdoor recreation, environment, and conservation-related current events;

  • Understand how bills or agency actions relating to public lands, climate, environment, and conservation may be relevant to The Mountain Pact constituency and craft policy updates around these;

  • Build materials packets by compiling messaging and related campaign activities for annual DC Fly-in and in-district meetings;

  • Interview local elected officials for Community Highlights; 

  • Participate in outreach with local elected officials; 

  • Hire and manage student interns;

  • Research and submit applications for additional grant opportunities and small funding sources;

  • Maintain tracking systems for congressional and local elected official outreach;

  • Additional administrative duties as relevant.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal skills;

  • Strong written communication skills and enthusiasm for writing;

  • Very strong attention to detail; 

  • Familiarity with federal Congressional and Administrative policy processes and/or considerable interest in developing an in-depth understanding;

  • Personal connection to western mountain culture;

  • Experience working with local government officials on conservation issues strongly preferred;

  • Self-starter who can quickly turn ideas into action;

  • Ability to translate policy language into tangible and understandable communication materials. 

LOCATION: Remote - Position can be based from anywhere in the American West.

COMPENSATION: This is a part-time independent contractor position varying from 30-50 hours per month. The hourly rate is commensurate with experience but likely $40-$50/hour.
